Statement from Dr. Raymond Cho, MPP for Scarborough North on Ramadan 2021Published on April 14, 2021
Below is a statement from Dr Raymond Cho, MPP for Scarborough North on Ramadan 2021:
Muslims, both here in Scarborough, and around the world are beginning the month-long spiritual journey of Ramadan.
During this month, people of Islamic faith will fast every day from dawn to sunset.
It is a time of deep spiritual awakening and prayer that strengthens the relationship with God, a time of increased charity and generosity to empathize the less fortunate.
Like last year, Ramadan will be a bit different again, due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, as we pray and celebrate at home.
We value the sacrifices you have made, along with the hard work you do to enhance our shared prosperity and growth. We will continue to work together to fight COVID and build a better future for generations to come.
Throughout this pandemic, Muslim organizations in Ontario joined with local mosques and businesses to help our most vulnerable.
I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge a few Muslim organizations in my riding for the important work they do.
We are blessed to be home to the Muslim Welfare Centre, the Islamic Foundation of Toronto and the Islamic Institute of Toronto - they are true cornerstones in our community who have helped Ontario stay strong.
And to each of you – thank you for all of your acts of charity. Each and every helping hand you offer makes a difference for our city, our province and our world.
Together we can both survive this pandemic, and emerge more united afterwards!
Wishing you and your loved ones peace, happiness and good blessings.
Ramadan Mubarak! Ramadan Kareem!”
